Prayer is talking with God and it’s important to model praying so children can easily fall into a pattern of God conversations. The prayers, in Teeny Tykes & Tunes, are age appropriate for toddlers and preschoolers. In the Teeny Tykes & Tunes curriculum, we encourage you to ask the children or caregivers to repeat the prayer phrase by phrase after you in a question/answer style establishing the rhythm and ritual of prayer.
I remember sharing the prayer Two Little Eyes in a Sunday School in Ireland. After the class, a mother came to ask for a written copy of the prayer because her special needs child really responded to this prayer that uses motions (pointing to parts of the body) as the children verbally pray. It was exciting to share this prayer (found below) with her and know that it connected with a child who could in turn interact with our Living God.
Two Little Eyes (point to each part of the body as it’s verbalized)
I have two little eyes to look to God.
Two little ears to hear God’s Word.
Two little feet to walk in God’s ways.
Two little lips to sing God’s praise.
Two little hands to do God’s will,
And, one little heart to love God still.
Amen.
