Fun Found Sounds

Listen! Sounds are all around. Found Sounds - things in the kitchen, office area, nature, or food containers- can make the best instruments! You can invent an instrument out of anything. From the kitchen, I love to make scraping sounds with two scouring pads. A stapler makes a fun tapping sound. Outdoors, two sticks hit together make an easy tapping instrument. And empty oatmeal container with a bit of leftover oats can make a quiet shaking sound.

The suggested “instruments” in the attached PDF are breath mints packaged in plastic containers. Teach each line of the rhythm to the students in your group and then count off and stack the lines as the children make a Breath Mint Symphony.

After the symphony is complete, gift the mints as a take home “happy.”
